Alice Joyce Lord

Princeton – Alice Joyce Lord, 78 of Princeton, IL passed away at Perry Memorial Hospital on Sunday, December 22, 2019 surrounded by loved ones. Alice was born in Evergreen Park, IL to the late Kenneth and Luella (Hurst) Smysor. After graduating from high school she got her nursing degree at Methodist College of Nursing in 1962. She also married her love, Robert, that same year on August 11, 1962. She worked at Prairie View for several years before becoming a stay at home mom. Once the children were in school, Alice went back to college receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She was a straight A student throughout her college career, an accomplishment she was very proud of. She started her teaching career as a second grade teacher at Douglas Elementary School, then moved to Lincoln Elementary School, where she remained a second grade teacher until her retirement in 2001. She loved photography and gardening, being a member of Princeton Photography Club and the Tiskilwa Gardening Club. She was a very active member of her church, First United Methodist Church in Princeton, IL. Alice also loved going to the cabin in the UP, where she was a member of a quilting group. She really loved anything outdoors or having to do with nature. She enjoyed bird watching, especially her humming birds. She liked to read and she loved her cats, but her biggest joy was her family. Her favorite times were spent playing with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alice is survived by her husband, Robert Lord of Princeton, IL for 57 years; two children, Karen (Shawn) Doubet of Peoria, IL and Michael Lord of Sycamore, IL; five grandchildren, Alyssa Doubet, Kaitlyn (Michael) Lucas, Emily Doubet, Madison Lord and Matthew Lord; two great grandchildren, Lennon and Ezra Lucas. Alice is also survived by a sister, Judy (Rod) Herbig of North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Luella Smysor, and one sister, Jane Prodoehl. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Mission Possible Program at the First United Methodist Church, Princeton, IL. A visitation will be held at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services for Alice will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, Princeton, IL at 10:30 a.m. officiated by her son in law Father Shawn Doubet.
