Barbara Jean Elwell

Princeton - Barbara Jean Elwell, 84, of Princeton, IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, surrounded by her loving family at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. Barbara, lovingly known by her family and friends as Barb, was born in Chicago, IL to the late Walter and Ruth (Blume) Eichmann. She married the late Howard Dismeier, who passed away in October of 1985. She found love again and married Walter Elwell on May 21, 1988, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wheaton, IL. She worked as an executive administrative assistant for the dean of the Wheaton College Graduate School, and later held a similar position at World Relief. She was a woman of great faith and devotion, and her spiritual life was of utmost importance to her. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Princeton, IL and served faithfully on the church's prayer commission, sang in the choir for a time, and very much enjoyed leading women in both church Bible studies and the community Explorer's Bible Study. Throughout her life, she enjoyed many opportunities to honor God with her beautiful voice as a soloist, including Christmas Eve services, weddings, funerals, and most especially, her children's weddings. She will long be remembered by her children and grandchildren for annual Easter egg hunts and family games at Christmas. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of over thirty-three years, Walter Elwell of Princeton, IL; her four children, Diane (Tad) Smith, Scott (Geraldine) Dismeier, Laurel (Paul) Langholz, and Lisa (Mark) Wolter; two stepsons, Tim (Carol) Elwell and Andy (Sue) Elwell; as well as thirteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Jeanine (Clarence) Wiltjer; as well as by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents, Walter and Ruth Eichmann, and her first husband of 26 years, Howard Dismeier (10/1985). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Voice of the Martyrs, the Evangelical Covenant Church in Princeton, or the Abigail Women's Center in Mendota, IL. A visitation for Barbara will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Princeton, IL from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., immediately followed by the service for Barbara at 11:00 a.m., also at the Evangelical Covenant Church, officiated by Pastor Derek C. Boggs. After the service, attendees are welcome to the graveside service at Oakland Cemetery in Princeton, IL.
