Barbara Ann Schmitt

Princeton - Barbara Ann Schmitt, 86 passed away at Liberty Village in Princeton on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Barbara was lovingly called Barb her entire life. She was born in Tiskilwa, IL to the late James and Francis (Greenback) Nevitt. She was a graduate of Tiskilwa, High School, Class of 1955. She married her high school sweetheart Richard "Dick" John Schmitt on July 2, 1955. Barb worked as a waitress with her sister Alene, she also was a house keeper, she worked at Spurgeon's downstairs until it closed, then she worked at Hoffman's until 2003. She enjoyed square dancing, bowling, any time there was music playing, no matter what type, you would find Barb dancing. She was an avid reader and over her life span read too many to count. Her favorite vacation destination was Nashville, TN, where there was always live music playing and you could find her dancing down the streets listening and enjoying the moment. Her family meant the world to her and she spent many hours listening to stories told by her loved ones. Surviving Barb, her husband of 68 plus years, Dick Schmitt of Tiskilwa, IL; children, Richard Schmitt of Polo, IL, Greg (Patty) Schmitt of Princeton, IL, Mike (Pam) Schmitt of Wisconsin, Julie (Rick) Taylor of Princeton, IL., Barbie (Erich) Hofmann of Glenview, IL, Kathy Michalek of Princeton, IL; sister Rita (Steve) Salsman of Tiskilwa, IL and one brother Jim Nevitt of Slidell, LA; 18 Grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Preceded by her parents Ve and Francis Nevitt, two sisters Alene Nevitt and Linda Nevitt, brothers Paul Schmitt, Larry Schmitt, Danny Nevitt, son-in-law Chuck Michalek and sister-in-law Nancy Nevitt. A visitation will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Services for Barb will be held the following day, Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tiskilwa, IL, officiated by Father Kevin Creegan, with Deacon John Murphy saying a few words of prayer. Services accompanied by organist Matt Ernat. Graveside services to follow on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Tiskilwa, IL. Pallbearers, Ben Schmitt, Brandon Schmitt, Brock Schmitt, Colton Schmitt, Andrew Schmitt, Daniel Schmitt, Zachary Taylor and Justin Hofmann.
