Princeton - Bonnie J. Smith, 90, of Princeton, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Liberty Village in Princeton. Born on May 4, 1936, in Canton, Illinois, Bonnie was the beloved daughter of Willis and Melba (Baldwin) Baldwin. She graduated from Limestone Community High School in Peoria with the Class of 1954. On June 26, 1955, she married the love of her life, Don Smith, at the First Christian Church in Canton. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, faith, and devotion to family. Bonnie was a faithful member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She found joy in serving others throughout her life, whether through her work or the many talents she shared with those around her. While raising her children, Bonnie worked for nearly 20 years as a sales clerk at Spurgeon's Department Store in Princeton, where she was known for her friendly smile and caring personality. She later worked part-time at Glamour Isle before turning her lifelong gift for sewing into her own home business, "Bonnie's Sewing Basket," where she lovingly created and altered garments for countless friends and neighbors. Bonnie had a remarkable talent for making a house feel like home. She loved baking delicious treats for family gatherings, knitting thoughtful gifts, and sewing with incredible skill and patience. One of her greatest pleasures was simply sitting on her front porch, visiting with family, friends, and neighbors, creating cherished memories through conversation, laughter, and quiet moments together. More than anything, Bonnie treasured her family. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, and adoring great-grandmother whose kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She is lovingly survived by her children, Sheri Romanelli (John) of Arlington, Scott Smith (Jennifer) of Princeton, and Sheila Goodfellow (Malcolm) of Geneva; her grandchildren, Jessica Wright, Shana Tello, Diana Sims, Alecia Davis, Zita Ryan, Melanie Goodfellow, and Ian Goodfellow; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Shane, Arran, Colin, Eli, and Cadence Kruse; Lorenzo and Gianna Tello; Stevie, Dottie, and Rollie Davis; and Eowynn and Avery Ryan. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Smith; her parents, Willis and Melba Baldwin; her brother, Bill Baldwin; and her son, Steve Smith. A private graveside service will be held with Pastor Ronda Hollars officiating. Bonnie's legacy is one of quiet strength, unwavering love, generous service, and simple joys. Her warm smile, caring heart, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
