David Ray Doty

Princeton - David Ray Doty, 73, passed away at Liberty Village in Princeton, IL on Monday, June 27, 2022. Dave was born in Princeton, IL on May 5, 1949 to the late Charles R and Dorothy (Hall) Doty. He was a graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1967. After graduation, he served in the United States Army National Guard and was very honored to do so. He was a proud member of our local American Legion and served as a member of the Honor Guard, representing many funeral homes by being part of the "Military Rites" crew. He married Janis Jeanguenat at St. Louis Catholic Church on February 20, 1999. He worked all of his life selling farming implements. Starting out at the age of 5, assisting and learning the family business. He and his brother eventually took over the business in the early 1980's. He then went to work for Caterpillar in Peoria, IL and then Holland & Sons - Dixon, Inc. in Dixon, Il before retirement in 2014. Dave loved his antique tractors, or any tractor for that matter. He so enjoyed Beef & Ag days in Princeton as well as Homestead, especially Sundays and the car show. He was a "Grand Dad" for sure, never missing any of the grands sporting events, plays, dances, etc. He loved spending time with his bride, Janis, of 23 years. They enjoyed attending theater and musicals together, one of his favorites was The Phantom of the Opera. He enjoyed attending outdoor concerts, festivals and plays. He liked going to the Quad Cities to play the slots every now and again and going out for a good meal. He talked about history and watching history programs daily. He was incredibly smart and always up for a trivia challenge. He liked to duck hunting and woodworking as well. He even made a table or two in his time. He is survived by his wife Janis Doty of Ohio, IL; two stepchildren, Kathy (Tom) Friel of Tiskilwa, IL and Richard (Cari) Pozzi of Princeton, IL; four grandchildren, Aaron (Lindsey) Friel, Zach Friel, Ariel (Jake) Swanson and Anthony (Casey) Pozzi; two great grandchildren, Lyla Friel and Harper Swanson; one brother Howard (Bonnie) Doty; two nieces, Marla Anderson and Tracy Kim; one nephew, Aaron Doty; and many cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Doty, as well as numerous aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Princeton American Legion or St Louis Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments. Services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, officiated by Monsignor Kruse, organist Charlie GeBeck, soloist, Clare Suarez and Victoria Suarez Yepsen. Graveside services to follow at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Princeton IL, 12:00 p.m. Officiated by Monsignor Kruse, Military Rites Accorded.
