Princeton - Dawn Marie Cathelyn, 66, of Princeton, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2026, at St. Joseph HospitalJoliet, Illinois. Dawn was born on November 6, 1959 in Princeton, Illinois, the daughter of Jerald Cathelyn and Marilyn (Steele) Cathelyn. She was raised in Princeton and attended local schools, graduating from Princeton High School, where she formed many lifelong friendships and was known for her kind heart and thoughtful nature. Following high school, Dawn pursued higher education at St. Francis College in Joliet, Illinois, where she earned a degree in Communications. Her education led her into the broadcasting field, and she began her professional career working at a television station in Chicago, Illinois, where she gained valuable experience and enjoyed the fast-paced environment of the media industry. Later, Dawn transitioned into a long and dedicated career with K-5 Construction in Westmont, Illinois. She remained with the company for many years, where she was respected for her reliability, professionalism, and strong work ethic. Dawn eventually retired from K-5 Construction, looking forward to a quieter pace of life. Sadly, soon after her retirement, Dawn began experiencing health complications. She faced these challenges with strength, grace, and determination, but despite her efforts, she was unable to overcome them. Dawn will be lovingly remembered by her family for her gentle spirit, her sense of humor, and her devotion to those she loved. She is survived by her mother, Marilyn Townsend, and stepfather, Gordon Townsend; her sisters Glenda Johnson of Princeton, Illinois, Diana (Dave) Gorski of Romeoville, Illinois, and Holly Hansen of Memphis, Tennessee; and her brothers Michael (Cheryl) Fenwick of Peru, Illinois, and David Fenwick of LaMoille, Illinois. She also leaves behind several extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, Jerald Cathelyn, and her sister, Michelle Cathelyn.
