Tiskilwa – Donald E. Sims “Donnie”, 82, of Tiskilwa, IL, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, surrounded by family. Donnie was born on February 10, 1936 in Tiskilwa, IL to James R. and Mabel E. (Johnson) Sims. He was a graduate of Tiskilwa High School and was well know in school as “Slick”. He met and married the love of his life, the late Barbara Ellis in 1955 and they started their family soon after. He worked in sales all of his life and enjoyed working for Purina most, as well as on the Barge in Hennepin. He enjoyed helping his neighbors with their farming projects, woodworking and furniture making after his retirement becoming quite the expert craftsman, he enjoyed golfing, listening to music, gardening and canning. Donnie kept an eye on his neighborhood from his garage sitting in his chair. He could be seen riding around town pulling his grandson, Ian, and his dog McDuff in a wagon behind his lawn mower. He was on the Tiskilwa Village Board for 12 years, Indiantown Township Board for 23 years, he was the Sextont of the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tiskilwa, IL, for over 30 years and he was Tiskilwa Citizen of the year in 2008. Donnie is survived by his two daughters; Stephanie (Mike) Underwood – Wyanet, IL, Sarah (Bob) Fritz – Princeton, IL, five grandchildren; Nicole (Aaron) Stephens – FL, Nicholas (Patricia) Sluis – FL, Troy Sims – WI, Tony Sims – MI, Ian Fritz – IL, four great grandchildren; Collier Stephens, Hollie Stephens, Skye Sluis, Killian Sims. He is preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Barbara Sims, one son, Bruce Sims, three brothers; Harold Sims, Kenny Sims and Joe Sims, two sisters; Pat Doyle, Marilyn Jaggers, and his faithful dog McDuff. Visitation for Donnie will be held at Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton, IL on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Services will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton, IL at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Deacon John Murphy. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, in Tiskilwa, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be directed to the Tiskilwa Historical Society or the Tiskilwa Library.
