Princeton - Dorothy J. "Jane" Finerty, 87, of Mundelein, IL beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and community volunteer, passed away peacefully in Princeton, IL on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at OSF St Clare Medical Center. Jane was born on October 21, 1937, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Jane was the cherished daughter of the late James and Dorothy (Ely) Groff. She graduated from Bucks County High School, in Doylestown, PA, Class of 1955. Jane married the love of her life, Thomas Morgan Finerty Jr. on August 17, 1957, in Doylestown, PA. Together, they built a life centered on love, service, and started their family. Moving several times due to work they would settle and raise their family in Sylvan Lake, near Mundelein, IL. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2015; they were married 57 years. She is survived by her eight children, Anne (Arnold) Faber of Princeton, IL, Michael (Christine) Finerty of Fairhope, AL, James (Amy) Finerty of Libertyville, IL, William (Theresa) Finerty of Carmel, IN, John (Colleen) Finerty of Mundelein, IL, Robert (Janice) Finerty of Middleton, WI, Susan (Edwin) Gomez of Huger, SC and Karen Finerty of Mundelein, IL, as well as 22 grandchildren, Margaret (Matthew) Krieger, Andrew (Sarah) Faber, Michelle (Bradley) Finley, Morgan (Scott) Gauthier, Martha (Jeremy) Weil, Bethany Finerty, Elizabeth (David) Schweitzer, Nicholas Finerty, Megan Finerty, Katherine Finerty, Rachel Finerty, Sean Finerty, Grace Finerty, Jack Finerty, Bridgette Finerty, Sophie Finerty, Joseph Finerty, Gladyse Finerty, Joshua Finerty, Elyse Gomez, Madeleine Gomez, Jillian Gomez; 9 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters and their spouses, Carolyn Lee, Gerald Lee and Elizabeth Snyder and Wilson A. Snyder. Jane enjoyed staying home while her children were young, encouraging them to grow and develop and be productive people; to find and value work. She was involved in her children's lives, encouraging them to be independent and thoughtful. Dedicating her professional life to healthcare and service, Jane worked in Sterile Processing at Condell Memorial Hospital in Libertyville, IL, as well as Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL. She retired after 25 years of service in Purchasing at the Barrington hospital. Her work was marked by her meticulous care and unwavering commitment to excellence. Beyond her career, Jane's life was a testament to service and creativity. She was an avid knitter, creating countless cherished keepsakes for her family. She enjoyed baking bread and chocolate chip cookies to share with neighbors and her many grandchildren. In retirement, Jane and her husband Tom devoted much of their time serving and volunteering, particularly at the Fremont Public Library in Mundelein, IL. as well as serving as an election judge in Lake County, IL. She also supported and volunteered at her church, St. Mary of the Annunciation. Jane and Tom enjoyed traveling. Nothing compared to her grandchildren. She loved them and loved to watch them grow and learn. A visitation will be on Friday, December 6, 2024 at St. Mary of the Annunciation from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. immediately following the visitation with Father Jerry Jacob officiating. Private burial to follow at St Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary of the Annunciation, 22333 W. Erhart Rd, Mundelein, IL.
