Princeton - James Walter Underwood, 80, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on April 26, 2024, in Sebring, FL, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and wisdom. Born on September 13, 1943, in Clinton, Illinois, James was the son of the late Leonard and Annie (Mattingly) Underwood. He graduated from Illiopolis High School as part of the Class of 1961. On March 9, 1963, he married Connie Jean Patterson in Illiopolis, IL and they embarked on a lifelong journey. James, known as Jim by most and Pop by his favorites, was dedicated to his work as a Collator Operator, first at Wallace Business Forms in Clinton, IL, from 1965 to 1979. From 1979 to 2011 he was the manager at General Business Forms in Princeton. His commitment, diligence, and work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues, friends and children. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life. A game of golf, forging friendships with fellow enthusiasts. He had a thirst for knowledge and loved to read. He found solace in the pages of books. He enjoyed watching movies and documentaries. Anything to expand his knowledge and pass on to his friends and family. Above all, Jim cherished the moments spent with his family. He was a pillar of strength and wisdom, offering guidance and support whenever needed. His presence brought warmth and joy to every gathering, and his legacy of love will continue to inspire generations to come. Jim will be deeply missed by his loving children, one son, Tim (Suzanne) Underwood of Gainesville, FL and one daughter, Teri Richardson (Lance VanderMeersch) of Phoenix, AZ; Nine adoring grandchildren, who thought he hung the moon and stars, Allyx Underwood (JT Dant) of Princeton, IL, Timothy Underwood of Princeton, IL, Emily (Ronnie) Barber of Weeki Wachee, FL, Matthew Chesney of Phoenix, AZ, Taylor (Kevin) Tena of Phoenix, AZ, Haley Richardson of Tucson, AZ, Cole Richardson of Tucson, AZ, Makiah Underwood of Gainesville, FL and Zeke Underwood of Gainesville, FL; three great grandchildren, Willow, Noah and Isla; one sister, Donna Hatfield of Davenport, IA; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Proceeded by his parents Leonard and Annie Underwood, wife, Connie Jean Underwood, five brothers and sisters, one great grandchild, Hallie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Chapel Hill Golf Course or The American Cancer Society.
