Jay Alan Swanson

Princeton - Jay Alan Swanson, aged 58, of Princeton, Il, passed away on March 6, 2024, at OSF St. Anthony in Rockford, Illinois. Born on September 17, 1965, in Princeton, he was the beloved son of Clifford and Marilyn (Oberlander) Swanson. Jay was a graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 1984. Following his graduation, he dedicated four years of service to the United States Navy from 1987 to 1991, earning an honorable discharge. Jay worked as a Navy Chef which led him to a career in cooking. He would be the dietitian at Colonial Hall Nursing Home in Princeton, IL. An enthusiastic supporter of Chicago sports teams, Jay's loyalty knew no bounds, particularly for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears. His passion for sports was evident to all who knew him. In addition to his love for sports, Jay had a zest for life that extended to his enjoyment of traveling and cherishing moments with his family. Known for his infectious laughter and remarkable sense of humor, Jay had a gift for bringing joy to those around him. Among his many characteristics, Jay was infamous for his adventurous driving style, earning him the reputation of being a "crazy driver" among his friends and family. Surviving Jay, two sons, Spencer Swanson of Princeton, IL. and Dustin Swanson of Prospect Heights, IL., one daughter, Amanda Swanson of Wheeling, IL; brothers, Robert (Mindy) Swanson from Castle Rock, CO, George (Tashe) Swanson from Alexandria, LA. and twin brother Jon (Michele) Swanson of Princeton, IL; one niece, Alicia Swanson, one nephew Jon Swanson, Jr. and his partner Kay Peterson of Princeton, IL. Preceded in death by his parents Clifford Dean Swanson and Marilyn Joan Oberlander Swanson, as well as three brothers, Clifford Swanson, Eric Swanson and Karl Swanson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Friends of Strays in Princeton, IL. A visitation will be held at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments at 5:00 p.m. Officated by Pastor Darin Jones.
