Johann Helmut Luft

Princeton - Johann "John" H. Luft, born February 18, 1945, in Austria to the late Johann and Maria (Grager) Luft, peacefully passed away on May 18, 2024, in his home, with his loving wife Nancy at his side as he met his Lord and Savior. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love. John was a graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 1964, and obtained his Associates Degree from IVCC. He was a member of several churches over his lifetime, always finding joy in hearing God's Word. On June 2, 1968, he began a lifelong journey, marrying Nancy Marie Lange at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church on The Hill. John joined the United States Navy in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1975. While living at Naval Air Station Cecil Field Jacksonville, FL, they started their family. During his 8 years of service, he took three cruises aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, including one to Vietnam. He loved his work in the military, working in electronics and crypto. His commitment and bravery were a testament to his patriotism and love for country. They moved back to Princeton in November of 1975 where their family continued to grow and be raised. John went on to have a career at LCN Door Closers, dedicating 23 years until his retirement in 2000. In his leisure time, John found solace in the pages of books, indulging his passion for reading and expanding his knowledge. His curiosity and intellectual pursuits enriched his life. He didn't meet too many books he didn't like. His all-time favorite was the Bible. He enjoyed good company and conversations, especially those about God's Word, and would spend many hours in prayer for others. John will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His warmth, wisdom, and gentle spirit will forever remain in our hearts. He is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Nancy Luft of Princeton, IL; three children, all of Princeton; Wendy (Scott) Bickett, Michael (Erika) Luft and Brian (Megan) Luft; one granddaughter, Izabelle Luft of Princeton, IL; a sister Renate Luft Lockwood of Colorado; one nephew Jonathan, two nieces, Michelle and Melissa, all of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johann and Maria Luft, two sisters, Maria Luft and Katherine Luft, and his father and mother-in-law Gilbert and Wilma Lange. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
