John W. Hall

John Wallace Hall Jr., 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah, GA, Thursday, January 29, 2009. John was born, February 5, 1922, in St. Joe, Missouri, the only child of Florence and John Hall, Sr. John married Jane M. Patrick, his loving wife of 27 years, in New York City on April 10, 1982. The Halls moved around during John's youth, living in Chicago, Atlanta, and Nashville. John was a Boy Scout while in Atlanta under the leadership of Ivan Allen, who was a prominent figure in Atlanta. John attended Vanderbilt University until the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor at which time he joined the Army Air Corps. He piloted a B-24 out of North Africa participating in raids against the Axis powers in the European Theatre. He was part of the Ploiesti Raid in Romania in an effort to destroy Nazi fuel supplies. John was a VP with Texasgulf, Inc in New York City until 1981 when he was asked by Ghaith Pharaon to come to Savannah to oversee his North American operations and to be president of Inter Redec. John oversaw the development of Ford Plantation at Richmond Hill. His lifetime golf connections helped to bring Pete Dye to Richmond Hill to design the golf course there. John loved his life in Savannah, living at The Landings. He was a supporter of the Savannah Symphony and was on the Board of Directors. He was a member of the Chatham Club and a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church on the island. John served on the board of the Independence Bank of Atlanta. John was passionate about the game of golf. He played most of the best courses around the world. In addition to being a member of the club at the Landings, he was a member of Pine Valley Country Club in New Jersey and La Romana Country Club at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic. John was preceded in death by his mother and father. In addition to his wife, Jane, other survivors include a son, John W. Hall III and his wife Mary Lou of Roswell, GA; a daughter, Cindy Grey and her husband John, of Alpharetta, GA; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren and his former wife, Audrey Jacobs Hall. John's life will be celebrated on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:00AM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Skidaway Island, GA. A viewing for family and friends will take place at the family home on Thompson Street, in Princeton, from 11:00 AM -12:00 PM on Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Interment will take place at Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Princeton, Illinois.
