NORMA A LORENZEN

Princeton – Norma A. Lorenzen, 96, of Princeton, IL., passed away in the morning on Monday, August 5, 2019 at Liberty Village surrounded by loved ones. Norma was born on December 1, 1922 to Howard and Gladys (Conard) Albright near Ohio, IL. She was a graduate of Bureau Township High School, Class of 1940, where she was the valedictorian of her class. Shortly after graduation she married Douglas Lorenzen at the St. Matthews Lutheran Church parsonage on March 29, 1942. She started her working career as the cafeteria cook at Logan Junior High, then at Sutliff’s Furniture Store as a clerk, she worked briefly at Harris Gift Shop and Fashion Fabric as well as a receptionist for Dr. George Rathbun. She finished out her working career at Flowers By Julia in Princeton. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for women and Esther Circle at St. Matthews Lutheran Church as well as a member of the St. Matthews Quilters. She loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren, they gave her the most joy and she loved to let everyone know how wonderful they were. She enjoyed baking and was quite the pie maker. She loved cooking and planning big meals because it would always bring the entire family together, which is what she really wanted. It wasn’t the amazing tasting food, but the sharing it with her loved ones that she liked. Norma was quite the seamstress as well, a hobby she shared with her family and church family. She enjoyed spending time with friends and her cats. One of her proudest accomplishments was becoming a member of the Foster Grandparent Program at the local schools. She would go into the classroom and assist any child that needed extra help. This program partially helped her realize her dream of becoming a school teacher. Norma is survived by her four children, Linda (Gene) Crossett from Davenport, IA., Mike (Patricia) Lorenzen from Sedona, AZ., Denise (Lee) Schuster from Brunswick, GA., and LuAnn (Terry) Ferrari from Princeton, IL.,; two grandchildren, Samantha (Adam Klein) Hobson from Princeton, IL., and Cory (Kari Johnson) Stocking from Princeton, IL.,; two great grandchildren, Mariah and Ava Hobson; one brother, Richard (Elaine) Albright; one sister-in-law, Linda Lorenzen; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Douglas Lorenzen (11-15-2010), one sister, Carol Leonard and one brother, Donald Albright. A visitation will be held at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Princeton, IL., on Monday, August 26, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Services for Norma will be held on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m., St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Princeton, IL., officiated by Pastor Scott Schmidt, followed by a graveside service at Elm Lawn, Princeton, IL.
