Mr Richard Johnson

Ohio - Richard Ray "White Sox" Johnson, 70, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at OSF St. Clare surrounded by his loving family. Richard, was always known as Rick by his friends and family. He was born on April 6, 1952 to the late Donald and Hazel (Rayborn) Johnson in Princeton, IL. Hazel always referred to Rick as "Her gift from God". He was a graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 1972. He worked at Gateway Services in their workshop and then worked for their Recycling Plant. When they closed, he went to work at Johnson Upholstery Shop from 1998 to 2022. Rick was very involved in the Special Olympics, Track and Bowling were his specialty. Earning more metals than he knew what to do with and cherished each and every one of them. You may see him around town wearing them just on a walk around town. He was a huge White Sox fan, he attended a game with Gateway Services, a dream come true for Rick. One of the highlights in life was the time he got to see Michael Jordan play at a Bulls Game, a story he loved to share with everyone. He loved listening to old Rock and Roll Music, 70's, 80's and a little 90's, he didn't forget a word and could quote many songs. He also loved watching old TV shows, Raw Hide, Wagon Train, Iron Side and Gun Smoke. One of his favorite memories was his trip last Thanksgiving to Monterey, TN, a drive with his brother, Terry and sister-in-law Debbie, as well as nephew, Colton, to meet up with his brother Jeff and sister-in-law Lori at their home in Tennessee. He stayed eight days and had a blast. Visiting some Amish Country, lots of beautiful scenery and relaxation. He was such a joy to everyone he came in contact with. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but is safe with his mom in heaven, as she has her gift back. Rick is survived by three brothers Terry (Deb) Johnson of Walnut, IL, James Johnson of Princeton, IL, Jeff (Lori) Johnson of Monterey, TN; one sister, Julie (Todd Ryan) Johnson Maloy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Hazel Johnson, two brothers, Ronnie Johnson and Larry Johnson, and his beloved niece Erica Maloy. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the family. A visitation will be held for Rick at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments, Princeton, IL, on Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Services to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments, on Saturday, October 8, 2022, officiated by Pastor Eldon Cook from the Walnut Community Bible Church.
