Princeton - Robert E. Levitt "Bob" was 94 born in Effingham, IL. He was the son of Mary (Harris) and Roy Levitt. Bob was a devoted Husband, loving Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. Bob passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2020 as a patient of Vitas Hospice, at Liberty Village in Princeton, IL among caring nurses and aides. Bob attended a Parochial School then at age 16, he joined the Navy as a Fireman First Class during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Bob married the love of his life, Jeannine L. (Casper) Levitt, on October 11, 1947 in Kankakee, IL. They were happily married for almost 54 yrs. He was a butcher by trade at grocery stores, Walnut Locker and Wyanet Locker. Bob and Jeannine owned a small grocery/grill in Princeton. They were members of St. Louis Catholic Church, where Bob especially enjoyed being their school custodian. He touched the hearts of many children (and adults) playing the Easter Bunny, Santa at movies, Liberty Village and especially at his son, Father Don's, masses. Bob loved to bowl and lived to play golf with friends and family, (making at least 2 hole-in-ones). He actually did virtual golf arranged by Vitas Hospice at age 92. He was an avid football and baseball fan. Bob is survived by his 5 children: Bob (Barb) Levitt of Williams Bay, WI, Jerry (Nancy) Levitt of Wellsville, NY, Debbie (Gary) Fritz of McFarland, WI, Father Don Levitt of Moline, IL, Mary (Pat) Cooney of Ohio, IL; 7 Grand-children: Sean (Shannon) Levitt of Lake Geneva, WI, Amber (Jesse) Medina of Sun Prairie, WI, Tessa Schmidt of Wellsville, NY, Trever (Lori) Levitt of Wellsville, NY, Ryan (Erin) Fritz of Sun Prairie, WI, Tyler (Jamie) Cooney of Princeton, IL, Brady (Montana) of Harmon, IL; 13 Great-Grandchildren Olivia and Logan Levitt, Taylor and Elijah Schmidt, Morgan Levitt, Chayce and Rylie Fritz, Mason and Joclyn Cooney, Brooklyn and Aisha Cooney. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeannine (Casper) Levitt, his parents, Roy and Mary Levitt, one Brother, Bernard Levitt, and one sister, Leona (Levitt) Dust. Vitas Hospice Peru, Liberty Village Nurses, Social workers, aids and staff, American Legion Auxillary, St. Louis Catholic Church and Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments. A Private Family Funeral, celebrating the life of Bob Levitt, will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at ST. LOUIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Princeton, IL. (Social distancing and Masks required) Father Don Levitt (Bob's Son) will be officiating. Followed by graveside services at Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton, IL. Military rites accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Peru Vitas Hospice, St. Louis Catholic Church, Princeton, IL for masses, The American Legion or a charity of your choice.
