Thomas Marshall Lyon

Mineral - Thomas Marshall Lyon, 69, formerly of Princeton, IL, unexpectedly passed on to be with our heavenly Father, Friday, June 16, 2023 at his home in Mineral, Illinois. Born May 24, 1954 to Marshall Dean and Joan Marie (Mills) Lyon, he was raised with his two sisters in Mineral, IL. After graduating from Annawan High School, Class of 1972, Tom went on to serve in the United States Navy as an Avionics Technician from 1974-1978. After his honorable discharge, he soon returned home. While working at the Bureau Junction Railroad Depot, he met the love of his life Yvonne Marie (Billings) Lyon. They went on to marry in 1981 and were blessed with two children, Deanna and David. Tom went to work for the Chicago, Rock Island Railroad. In 1979, he started his career at LTV Steel as an Electrical/Electronics & Combustion Supervisor. He worked there until the plant closed in 2001. He went on to work as a supervisor at Del Monte Foods from 2002-2012. The following year he went to work for Aleris International until his retirement in 2016. Tommy just couldn't stay retired though and went on to work with his brother-in-law John Carlson, at Carlson HVAC and plumbing. He enjoyed, first and foremost, spending time with his family and friends. He was a devout Christian, father, grandfather, son, and brother. If help was needed, Tom was there to do whatever he could. He was dedicated to taking care of those that he loved. Flying was one of his favorite hobbies and he would share with others by taking them on short flights around the area. He loved adventures, whether it was a short trip or cross country, Tom was ready to go! One of his last journeys was spending six months exploring the Eastern Cascades while staying with his daughter and grandkids. He fell in love with the mountains and was planning to go back this fall. Tom is survived by Yvonne Marie Lyon (Billings); his daughter, Deanna Mae Lyman (Lyon); sisters Linda Carlson (John), Kathy Tank (John); Aunt Dottie Bitting; daughter-in-law Samantha Lyon (Hand); grandchildren Sawyer and Summer Lyman, and William, Barrett, and Hazel Lyon; Bonus son Trevor (Samantha) and bonus grandson Asa; nieces and nephews , Alicia Brown (David), Mike Carlson (Jeannie), Melanie Stabler, Amber Williamsen (Matt), Bryan Tank, Brianna Aper (Geoff) and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Marshall and Joan Lyon, his son David Lyon, great nephew Brett Carlson, and many beloved aunts and uncles. A visitation for Tom will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 26. 2023, officiated by Pastor Chantha Chhim at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments. Graveside services to follow at the Mineral Cemetery in Mineral, IL, officiated by Pastor Chantha Chhim. Military Rites Accorded Pallbearers: Mike Carlson, Bryan Tank, Matt Williamsen, Geoff Aper, Oliver Stabler and Andrew Dura. Honorary Pallbearers: John Carlson, John Tank, Sawyer Lyman, William Lyon, and Barrett Lyon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
