Vera Marilyn Nelson

Princeton - Vera "Marilyn" Nelson, 102 years and 233 days, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Liberty Village. Surrounded by her loving family who saw her safety onto her next adventure. Marilyn, as she was known by everyone who knew her, was born on February 22, 1920, to the late John and Nettie (Turnbull) Krapff. She was born in her grandparents' home on Euclid Avenue, directly across the street from where Princeton High School stands now. She was a graduate of Ohio High School, Class of 1937. She married the late Robert Nelson in Iowa on August 17, 1940. There celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary before Roberts passing in 2016. Marilyn spent most of her life as a farmer's wife, that meant everything from chief cook and bottle washer, doctor, tractor driver or whatever was required, everyone did their part. Later in life she worked at Perry Memorial Hospital and Hornsby's. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Princeton. She saw many things in her 102 years, from births and deaths, war times and peace times. She loved holidays and birthdays or anytime she was able to spend with family Marilyn is survived by her three children, Larry Nelson of Princeton, IL, Linda (Kenneth) Saal of Princeton, IL and Lori (Richard) Topolski of Streator, IL; six grandchildren Donald Nelson, Robert Nelson, Colleen Nickelsen, Carol Carroll, Cheryl Daniels and Robert Sharisky; eighteen great grandchildren and sixteen great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Nettie Krapff, her husband Robert Nelson (2016), four brothers, Walter Krapff, Gordon Krapff, Glenn Krapff and Donald Krapff, one sister, Helen Hughes, one son-in-law James Sharisky, one daughter-in-law Linda Nelson, three granddaughters Sharon Wilson, Cathie Nelson and one in infancy. A visitation for Marilyn will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments, October 18, 2022, Officiated by Pastor Gene Vincent, with music performed by loved ones. Pallbearers: Robert Sharisky, Donald Nelson, Robert Nelson, Kenneth Saal, Richard Topolski and Dylan Benavidez. Vera Marilyn Krapff Nelson will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery in Princeton, IL., following services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church of Princeton, IL.
