Viola MARIE Anderson

Marie Anderson 1918-2016 Marie Pierson Anderson, 97 of Princeton passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Colonial Heathcare and Rehab Center in Princeton. Marie was born on August 16, 1918 at home in rural Wyanet, Illinois to Media (Titus) and Oscar Pierson. She graduated from Walnut High School in 1936 and received a Bachelor’s degree from Monmouth College in 1940. Following graduation, she became a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse North of Coal Hollow Hill. She continued to teach for 40 years, 36 years at Princeton Elementary School District. On June 25, 1944, she married Wendell Pierson. They were married eight years before he died on November 26, 1952. She married Virgil Anderson on November 19, 1966. They were married for 38 years. He died on April 13, 2004. Surviving is a daughter, Sharry Johnson, of Mendota and a friend Ron Yarger of Princeton, a son, Gordon (Sue) Pierson, of Rockton. Four Stepdaughters, Janet Frazee of Pawnee, Marilyn Edeler of Greybull, Wy., Phyllis (Joe) Sledgister of Tiskilwa and Carolyn (Roland) Saucier of Chatham. One sister, Cleona Gross of Princeton. Four grandsons, Jeremy and Jared Johnson of Chicago, Erik (Jenn) Pierson of Rockford, Nick (Stephanie) Pierson of Rockton, and one granddaughter, Molly Johnson of Chicago. Five step-grandsons, Andy (Tayna) Frazee of Decatur, Ga., Dallas (Jody) Edeler of Greybull, Wy., Allen (Brittany) Sledgister of Princeton, Scott Sledgister of Tiskilwa, Rollo (Vanessa) Saucier of University Park IL., Three step-grandaughters, Alison (Brad) Donoho of Godfrey, IL., Cassidy Nunnally of Greybull, Wy,. And Jen Saucier of Mattoon, IL., 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, a son-in-law Kent Johnson, a grandson Jason K. Johnson, a stepson, Stanley Anderson, two step son-in-laws Tom Frazee and Del Edeler. Four sisters and five brother in-laws. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Covenant Women, Bureau County Retired Teachers and Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher Honor Society, She enjoyed volunteering at Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, and Greenfield. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30am with funeral services at 10:30 on Saturday, March 19th, 2016 at the Evangelical Covenant Church located at 24 N. Main St. Princeton. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Princeton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Evangelical Covenant Church Radio Fund, 24 N. Main Street Princeton, IL 61356 and Rush Neurological Behavioral Center Scholarship Fund (Builds on strengths of children) in care of Sharry Johnson, 1100 Meadowview Dr. Mendota, IL 61342.
