Princeton - Virginia L. Nelson, age 94, died Sunday, April 17, 2022 at OSF St. Clare Hospital in Princeton, IL. Virginia was born March 27, 1928 in Keokuk, IA to Carl N. and Achsa J. (Hayes) Swan. She attended Princeton Schools and Northern IL University in DeKalb. Virginia last worked at Greenfield Retirement Home in Princeton as Activities Director. She volunteered throughout the years starting with Cub Scout den mother, 4-H leader, numerous capacities at her church, Hospital Auxiliary, Church Women United, League of Women Voters and many more. She married Wilbur L. Nelson on July 17, 1949. They were parents of five children, Wilbur "Bill" (Lina) Nelson II of Princeton, Beckie (Dave, deceased) Dunshee of Henry, Beth (Rick) Peacock of Princeton, Barb (Bob) Maubach of Bloomington and Bonnie Nelson of Bloomington. She had eight grandchildren, Todd (Brenda) Mutchler, Matt (Sabrina Higdon) Dunshee, Michele (Nathan) Kelly, Aimee (Jeremy) Kiesewetter, Amber (Bryon) Owens, Jeremy Maubach, Jim (Mandy) Nelson & Molly (Tyler) Ackerman and 13 great grandchildren, Kohl, Logan, Kylyn, Nolan, Lance, Kirkland, Jada, Jaxen, Josie, Quinn, Izzie, Emmy, and Hailey, and 3 step great grandchildren, Sydney, Brock & Sadee. Additional survivors include her sisters-in-law Judy Nelson, Joanne Swan, Dorothy (Jerry) Carver, Flory Swan, a brother-in-law Rex (Kathie) Nelick, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, three brothers Everette, John & Roger Swan. One sister Joanne Klingenberg, a son-in-law Dave Dunshee and a great grandson, Jonah Maubach. Virginia enjoyed watching her grandchildren & great grandchildren in whatever they were doing. She and her husband especially enjoyed wintering in Fountain Hills, AZ. She was an active member of the Hampshire Colony Congregational Church in Princeton and an associate member of Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church in Fountain Hills, AZ. A visitation will be held at the Hampshire Colony Congregational Church in Princeton, IL on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral service to follow at the Hampshire Colony Congregational Church at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 22nd officiated by Pastor Michael Freeman. Burial will follow at Oakland cemetery in Princeton. Memorials may be directed to the Hampshire Colony Congregational Church or as donors choice.
