Lawrence G. Courey 1921-2007 Memorial service for Lawrence G. Courey, age 86 of Princeton, will be Saturday, Nov 03, 2007 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM at the VFW Hall in Wyanet. Mr. Courey passed away on Friday, Oct 26, 2007 at Colonial Hall Rehab and Nursing Center. He was born on Apr 20, 1921 in Streator, Illinois to George and Mabel (Mushroo) Courey. He graduated from Streator Township High School in 1940. He joined the Army October 10, 1942. He served as a Staff Sergeant during WWII in the European Theatre. He received the Purple Heart, a bronze Campaign Star, Good Conduct Medal, and the EAME Ribbon. He was honorably discharged Oct. 5, 1945 after being wounded in battle. Afterwards he was a partner in the family clothing business, Mushroo's Clothing Store, in Streator until 1975. He was an active member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. Larry is survived by his wife Winnie Lou Courey of Princeton, four children, Gale (Alfred) Anderson of Peru, Paula (Don) Finkbone of Beason, Tony (Penny) Wheeler of Wyanet, and Diana (Chip) Sutphin of Jacksonville. Also surviving are one brother Ken Courey of NJ, three sisters, Mary Einhaus of NJ, Betty Brown of Canada, and Phyllis Gerard of Streator. Surviving as well are 13 Grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gene, a sister Florence and a daughter Bonnie Pluemer. Memorials may be directed to the family. Norberg Memorial Home is caring for the family.
