Princeton - Lucille Prostko, 97 passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Liberty Village surrounded by loved ones. Lucille Irene Prostko was born December 26, 1921 in Berlin Township, Illinois to William and Mary (Baum) Schindel. She attended Durham School in Berlin Township. She married late Walter Prostko on September 11, 1948, in St. Peter and Paul Church in Spring Valley, Illinois. Lucille worked at the Green River Ordinance Plant during World War II. She also worked as a cook at Pilgrim Park Church Camp, Roosevelt Square Nursing Home and Colonial Hall Nursing Home. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, playing cards, playing computer games, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. She is survived by three daughters, Phyllis (John) Tobias of Rockford, Illinois, Helen (Joe Gaytan) Prostko of Elgin, Illinois, Florence (Jim Verstraete) Prostko of Princeton, Illinois and one son Walter (Deborah) Prostko of Princeton, Illinois; four grandchildren John (Michelle) Tobias, of Ruther Glen, Virginia, Adam Tobias and Austin Tobias of Rockford, Illinois and Amanda (Sam) Schwartz of San Francisco, California, one sister Bertha Ballatti of Princeton, Illinois, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter Prostko (May 1999), four brothers George Schindel, Chuck Schindel, Walter Wayne Schindel, Arthur Schindel; three sisters Wilma Owens, Lillian Owens, Bernice Owens. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, at Saint Louis Catholic Church, Princeton, Illinois, officiated by Father Daniel Gifford. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2 at the Saint Louis Catholic Church, Princeton, IL. The Prostko family would like to extend a special thanks to the following. The staff at Liberty Village for their loving care given to Lucille during her stay. To Sister Anne Germaine and Father Daniel Gifford for the spiritual support given to Lucille and her family and to JD and Janice Smallwood of Norberg Memorial Home, for their kindness, guidance, care and assistance making a very difficult time much easier.
