Darrell W Lane

Princeton - Darrell William Lane and his love of everything Princeton died November 8, 2023, at OSF St Clare in Princeton. Bill, as we called him, taught Agriculture in Elwood, IL, Ohio, IL and in Manlius, IL for 28 years. He was active in the fire department as an EMT and head of the Manlius Ambulance Service. He also served on the Manlius town board. After retiring and moving to Princeton, Bill sold real estate and was on the county board of review. Bill enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play in sporting events, plays and whatever interested them. He enjoyed traveling, having been to Europe, England, Iceland, Scotland, Wales, Sudan, Norway, Demark, Australia, New Zealand and all the states in the US added to his list of travels as well. Bill was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a very loved man. Surviving, his wife of 63 years, Patricia West Lane of Princeton, IL; four children, Mark (Danielle) Lane of Bartlett, IL, Kathy (Jim) Long of Manlius, Il, Sandy (Dan) Smith of Princeton, IL and Jim Lane of Elgin, IL.; nine grandchildren, Jacob, Michael and Ryan Lane, Jessica (Juan) Varela, Matt (Amber) Moman, Joshua (Claire) Smith, Zachary (Sylvie) Smith, Gabi (Chad) Cope and Christian Smith. He is also survived by sixteen great grandchildren, Camille, Scarlett, Judah, Josiah, Joy, Jemma, Esme, Ames, Etta, Cristian, Alex, Dominic, Lucia, Dylan, Andrew and Tucker. Also surviving Bill is a brother Roger Lane and one sister Lorinne Lunde; one brother-in-law Tom West and sister-in-law Karen Nelson, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Illinois Cancer Care or Princeton Animal Shelter. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Private graveside services will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at the Oakland Cemetery in Princeton, IL.
