Ivan H Walter

Arlington - Ivan Harry Walter, 96, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the Henry Rehab and Nursing Home, surrounded by loved ones. Ivan was born in Spring Valley, IL to the late Fred and Ada (Searl) Walter. He was a graduate of Hall High School, Class of 1944. He married Wilma McKee on January 15, 1950 at the Seatonville Congregational Church. They were blessed with five children. He farmed for 70 plus years raising corn, soybeans, cattle and hogs. He was a member of the FS Board of Directors, Arlington Grade School Board, LaMoille Unit School District Board, Lifetime Member/Board Member of the Hollowayville United Church of Christ and a volunteer firefighter for the Arlington Fire Department. Ivan enjoyed square dancing, round dancing, roller skating, snow skiing, camping, traveling, playing cards and board games. He and Wilma enjoyed spending time with family and friends which usually included playing cards or board games. He and Wilma wintered in Mesa, Arizona for 30 plus years and made many friends through their dancing and love of games. He is survived by his children, son Carl Walter of rural Spring Valley, IL, daughters Bonnie (Barry) Burkman of rural Princeton, IL, Sherry (Steve) Metz of rural Fairbury, IL, Pat (Larry) Pearson of rural Malden, IL, Doris "Dorrie" (Steve) Simon of rural Owatonna, MN; eight grandchildren, Denise Burkman, Shawn Burkman, Rob (Kimi) Burkman, Chris (Lauren) Metz, Kim (Trevor) Maloch, Emily (Clif) Rosenberger, Paul Pearson, Stacy (Matt) Sink; one step-granddaughter, Brit (Toby) Erler; ten great-grandchildren, Mckenzie Rosenberger, Harrison Maloch, Theo Metz, Grace Maloch, Clinton Rosenberger, Walter Metz, Claire Maloch, Thaddeus Burkman, Amelia Maloch, and Elliott Burkman; two step great-grandchildren, Kiya Erler and Kelton Erler. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Benjamin Walter, and his beloved wife Wilma. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hollowayville United Church of Christ or Compassus Hospice Care. Visitation will be held on Friday October 13, 2023 at Norberg Memorial Home, Inc. & Monuments from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services for Ivan will be held at the Hollowayville United Church of Christ on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with a one-hour visitation prior. The service will be officiated by Pastor Mike Slutz. Graveside services to follow at Spring Valley Memorial Park.
