Julie L Brown

Princeton - Julia Louise Brown, age 79, of Princeton, passed away on December 22, 2020 due to complications of Alzheimer’s. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all of those she crossed paths with. Julie was born in Princeton, Illinois to Howard and Cordelia (Norberg) Miles. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1959 and then attended Southern Illinois University. Julie worked as a special education teacher, a library assistant at the Princeton Public Library, and a preschool teacher at Gingerbread School in Princeton. She was also a partner of A.G. Landahl and Co. and Lee’s Clothing for 22 years. Julie’s family meant the world to her. On July 23, 1961, she married J. Birney Brown. He survives along with their three children, Bradley (Kristen) Brown of Denver Colorado, Michele (Mike) Scanlon of South Elgin, Illinois, and Pamela (Tom) McCallum of Aurora, Illinois. Grandchildren include, Austin, Paige, Katelyn, Aly, Max, Faith, and Sierra. She has one great granddaughter, Kinsley. Also surviving is Julie’s sister, Jerralee Ernst, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jane Griffin. Julie loved to read, travel, spend time with family and friends, and to help others. She was passionate about her hometown, the community of Princeton, where she was an avid volunteer. She was active in the following organizations: P.E.O Sisterhood, Hardanger Club, Perry Memorial Auxiliary Board, Friends and Council Board, Bureau County Hospice, Bureau County Historical Society Board, and Bureau County Chorus. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Country Comfort Retirement Home in Princeton for their care and support. They would also like to thank her best friends, Betty Sutliff and Earlene Campbell, for their life-long friendships. A private burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation in her name to First United Methodist Church in Princeton would be appreciated.
