J. Steven Barlow 1939-2014 Memorial service for J. Steven Barlow, age 74 of Princeton, will be Wednesday, Jan 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Brian Hall will officiate. Burial will be private and at a later date. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Jan 14, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Norberg Memorial Home. Mr. Barlow passed away on Friday, Jan 10, 2014 at Perry Memorial Hospital, four hours after the birth of his 13th grandchild. Steve was born on Oct 07, 1939 in Wichita, KS to Vernon Westfall and Martha (Stevenson) Barlow. He graduated from Humboldt High School in Humboldt, Kansas in 1958. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1962 with a degree in Business Administration. He played football in High School and College. Steve started working at Bruce Monument Company in Kansas and in 1979, after the passing of his father in law, he moved to Illinois and learned the craft of farming. He married Susan Peterson on Jun 05, 1961 in Manhattan, Kansas. She survives. Steve had extensive memberships in Kansas and Princeton including: First Presbyterian Church, as a deacon, elder, youth leader, trustee and Scout Master Toastmasters, Jaycees, Rotary, Kiwanis, and Elks Ronald Regan Trail Assoc. Board, Chairman of the Tourism Committee, Chamber of Commerce board, Bureau County Senior Citizens Assoc. Board, Princeton Elementary School Board for 5 years Volunteer Ambulance Driver/CPR Instructor Bureau County Farm Board: President, Township director 5 years, Treasurer 4 years, and Vice-president for one year. Bank Board for 5 years He was a Mason and a Shriner Steve is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan Barlow of Princeton. Also surviving are four children: Jay Barlow, Sarah (John) Larsen, Rebekah Leach, and Rachel (Jeff) Bystry all of Princeton. Surviving as well are 13 grandchildren: Jay Steven Barlow II, Benjamin Larsen, Jacob, Hensley, Garity and Emmett Leach, Amelia, Justus, Milo, Simeon, Faustina, Patience, and Angelo Bystry. Also surviving are two sisters Ann (Gilbert) Cation of KS and Jane (Roy) Slagle of TX. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church and the Bureau County Food Pantry.
